MLB – Los Angeles Dodgers at Washington Nationals

MLB-Bud-Norris-Los-angeles-dodgers-washington-nationalsWashington Nationals aiming for revenge against Los Angeles Dodgers on Thursday

The Washington Nationals have been in good form this year and have a good record.  However, they lost three straight against Los Angeles Dodgers the last time these teams met. The matchup between the Los Angeles Dodgers and Washington Nationals will take place on Thursday, July 21, 2016, at 12:05 p.m. ET at Nationals Park. The ballgame will be broadcast on SportsNet L.A. and MASN2.

The Los Angeles Dodgers are 10 games over .500, but only have a 22-24 record on the road. There is some uncertainty on a starting pitcher. The Dodgers still hasn’t named a starter for the game. There was a thought that Clayton Kershaw could return from the disabled list, but that is highly unlikely. It looks more like Bud Norris will make his second start of the second half. Norris acquired from the Braves and has made three starts for the Dodgers.  He has 2-0 record and a 3.94 ERA over 16 innings. The Dodgers have a pretty good pitching staff this year. The Dodgers are first in MLB in bullpen ERA at 2.89.  In 30 1/3 innings, Adam Liberatore has a 0.59 ERA. Joe Blanton has been one of the better off-season acquisitions with a 2.05 ERA in a bullpen leading 48 1/3 innings.

The Washington Nationals are expected to send the right-hander Stephen Strasburg to the mound for this game. He is having his best season to date and is developing into an ace quality starter. He has missed a couple games due to injury, but he is 13-0 with a 2.51 ERA. He is walking more than normal, but his strikeout rate has held steady and the opponent batting average against has dropped substantially. Strasburg has only given up two or more runs just five times in 17 starts. Best Sports Site Blog is going with the Nats on this one because Strasburg is still undefeated, and offensively these teams are pretty evenly matched.

MLB – Washington Nationals at New York Mets

noah-syndergaard-mlb-new-york-mets-washington-nationalsNew+York+Mets+Washington+NationalsWashington Nationals at New York Mets in a huge NL East matchup on Friday

The New York Mets will be playing against the Washington Nationals on Friday in a matchup of NL East heavyweights. The Mets will be sending Noah Syndergaard to the mound against the Nationals pitcher Stephen Strasburg for this game. Only the Giants and Cubs have better  records than the Nats in the National League.  The Washington Nationals currently holds a four game lead over the New York Mets for the lead in the division. The matchup between the Washington Nationals and New York Mets will take place on Friday, July 8, 2016 at 7:10 p.m. ET at Citi Field. The ballgame will be broadcast on the MLB Network.

The Washington Nationals righty ace pitcher Stephen Strasburg has been dealing with a back injury that put him on the disabled list. He came back against the Cincinnati Reds and pitched for 6.2 scoreless innings for the win.  The win gives him a perfect 11-0  record.  He is moving ever closer as a potential NL Cy Young contestant. Strasburg is having his best season as a pro. He has allowed just 75 hits in just under 100 innings of work, and opponents are batting .208 against him. He has had good starts in both ballgames against the Mets this season. Strasburg stands at 5-1 against the Mets with a 0.97 WHIP lifetime at Citi Field. Strasburg has given up more than 2 ER in just five starts this season.

The New York Mets pitcher Noah Syndergaard has bone spurs in the back of the pitching elbows. However, these spurs didn’t even bother him last time out against the Cubs as he continued to mow people down. Thor allowed Chicago just seven hits and 1 ER with eight strikeouts and no walks through seven innings. The Mets have a 11-6 record when he has statred. Thor is best at home where he’s 5-1 with a 2.02 ERA. He is also 2-1 with a 2.70 ERA against the Nationals. Syndergaard did not have a good game against the Nats when he last threw at them back on June 27. He gave up 5 ER and seven hits through just three innings. You can expect him to go all out this time around with that game fresh in his mind. Best Sports Site Blog  expects both starting pitchers to be on top of their game in this one. We believe that Thor will be talking it to the next level and give the edge to the Mets.

Chicago Cubs at Washington Nationals

Chicago Cubs at Washington NationalsChicago Cubs meet Washington Nationals in D.C. on Wednesday

The Washington Nationals will attempt to settle the score with the Chicago Cubs who swept them right out of Wrigley Field in early May. In recent rivalry, the Cubs have won eight of the last 10 games with the Nats. The matchup between the Chicago Cubs and Washington Nationals will take place on Wednesday, June 15, 2016, at 4:05 p.m. ET at Nationals Park. The baseball contest will be broadcast on WGN.

The Chicago Cubs will be sending veteran pitcher Jason Hammel to the mound. Hammel is 7-2 for the season with a 2.36 ERA and 7.9 K/9 average. He has 12 starts this season and lost the last game to Atlanta in which he gave up eight hits and 3 ER over 5.2 innings of work. Hammel does better at home and is only 4-3 when he’s on the road where his ERA is up slightly at 2.57. Hammel does well against the Nats, but gave up three ER and walked four through just five innings back on May 7.

The Washington Nationals will be sending 10 game winner Stephen Strasburg to the mound for this game. Despite leaving his previous start with a calf strain, he went out and owned the Philadelphia Phillies after getting roughed up early. After giving up four earned, he went on to strikeout 10 and retired the final 14 batters he faced to log his tenth win of the season. He’s undefeated on the year and has given up just 69 hits and struck out 110 over his 86 total innings of work. He didn’t get a chance to play against the Cubs earlier this season, and will be looking to earn his first win against them in his fourth career try. Best Sports Site Blog is going to have to go with Strasburg and the Nats on this one. Strasburg has been on a tear and has gone six plus innings in 12 of his 13 overall starts. He also has the better of the two bullpens backing him up.

Washington Nationals at Chicago Cubs

Jake+Arrieta+Chicago+Cubs+v+Washington+NationalsChicago Cubs Looks Scary Good vs. Washington Nationals

The Chicago Cubs have been scary good this year.  Ace pitcher Jake Arrieta takes the mound on Sunday and it’s been 288 days since Chicago lost a regular season game in which he started. That streak spans only 19 starts, but it’s still an  impressive run.  The Washington Nationals pitching is the main reason why they lead the National League East.  The starting pitcher Tanner Roark is pleasant surprise,  but young righty will have to be on his game against the best hurler in the league. The matchup between the Washington Nationals and Chicago Cubs is scheduled for Sunday, May 8, 2016, at 2:20 p.m. ET at Wrigley Field. The ballgame will be broadcast on the MLB Network.

When the Cubs have Arrieta out on the mound  good things are to follow. His numbers so far this season are even more impressive than what he did last year. He has allowed only 20 hits in 43.0 innings only 20 hits in 43.0 innings to record six wins and became only the second pitcher to accomplish this.  Arrieta has a 0.84 ERA, 0.74 WHIP going into Sunday’s game with the Nationals.  The Chicago Cubs team have done their share of the work with Arrieta on the mound. The Cubbies have scored a total of 52 runs no fewer than six runs in any of them.

The Washington Nationals as of late haven’t been overpowering offensively. Right fielder Bryce Harper and second baseman Daniel Murphy have been doing an excellent job for the Nats. Pitcher Tanner Roark now has four quality starts in his last five outings. It was the third game in a row in which he pitched at least seven innings. Roark now has an excellent 2.35 ERA in 38.1 innings to open the season. On Tuesday, Roark allowed three runs in the first three innings but then settled down and held the Royals to three hits and one unearned run in the next 4.1 innings. Prior to this Roark struck out 21 over 14 shutout innings in his last two starts. Best Sports Site Blog thinks that the Cubs will continue their awesome play and bag another win.

MLB: Mets Building NL East Lead at Washington’s Expense

Jacob deGrom-mets

MLB: Nats Running out of Chances vs. New York Mets

The Washington Nationals are on the verge of missing the playoffs. The New York Mets can put even more distance between themselves and the Washington Nationals when they play the finale of a three-game series this Wednesday at 7:00 PM ET in DC. Washington’s struggles have been well-documented, but they’re still on the hunt for the wild card. The Mets won Monday’s opener 8-5 and open up a five-game lead in the NL East.

The Mets will send Jacob deGrom to the mound who is 4-1 in his last 10 starts. This year, he’s 1-2 in four starts with a 3.47 ERA against the Nationals this season. The 27-year-old sophomore is fourth in the National League in ERA, but those numbers climb on the road to 3.25  vs 1.57 at home.

The Nationals will counter with Stephen Strasburg, who last pitched on August 30 against Miami and then was skipped in the rotation. Washington is being careful with the 2014 strikeout leader because he has battled injuries this season and is dealing with a bad back right now. Strasburg has settled down after the All-Star break where he is 3-1 with a 2.70 ERA in five starts. In 13 starts before the break, Strasburg was 5-5 with a 3.16 ERA.

Washington’s chances of catching up to the Mets took a hit two weeks ago when outfielder Denard Span (.796 OPS) was shut down for the year with an inflamed hip. Meanwhile, New York has welcomed both third baseman David Wright (.773 OPS) and catcher Travis d’Arnaud (.913 OPS) back to the lineup since the July 31 non-waiver trade deadline. The Mets are 9-5 since Wright’s first game back, while the Nats are also 9-5 over the same time frame.

MLB: Wacha Leads Cardinals Against Scherzer, Nationals

MLB: Scherzer-Nats, Wacha-Cardinals Square Off in St. Louis

It’s a meeting of two pitchers going in opposite directions on Wednesday as Michael Wacha tries to stay hot when he takes on the ice-cold Max Scherzer and the Nationals. Max Scherzer may have fallen out of the Cy Young race, but he can keep Washington in the NL East hunt with a good showing on Wednesday. He’ll face Michael Wacha and the St. Louis Cardinals in the final game of the series.  They’ll try to close the gap when they wrap up the three-game series in St. Louis.

The Washington Nationals have been one of the biggest disappointments in the majors this season, but they are still within reach of the New York Mets in the National League East. Despite the Nats starting to play more consistent baseball, they have not been able to gain significant ground on the Mets in the NL East. The NL Central is still a race as St. Louis leads the Pirates by 4.5 games. The Nats and Cardinals have not faced each other since April 21-23 at Nats Park, a series that the Cardinals won two out of the three games. St. Louis has won seven of their last eight games, are 18-9 in their last 27 games, and 28-13 over their last 41 contests.

The Washington Nationals won 10 of Max Scherzer’s first 14 starts this season, but that momentum has dulled. Since then the Nats have lost eight of his last 11 outings. Max Scherzer will take the mound for the Nats, and he was 10-7 in 18 starts before the All-Star break with an ERA of 2.11. Since the break, Scherzer is 1-4 in eight starts with a 5.09 ERA, and he hasn’t posted a win since July 30 in Miami. The Nats have lost four straight times that Scherzer has been on the mound. He’s allowed 17 earned runs, and seven homeruns in his last 22 innings pitched. He’ll face Michael Wacha, who joined Scherzer at the All-Star Game, but has been much more effective. Washington needs their big money hurler to put the rotation on his shoulders down the stretch, or they will miss the playoffs.

The Cardinals send out Michael Wacha, who has allowed four earned runs in his last six starts while going 4-0 over that time. He has also been excellent at home in 2016, going 6-2 with a 2.43 ERA in 11 starts. Wacha has been one of the best pitchers in the National League since the break, going 5-1 in eight starts with a 2.16 ERA, and he hasn’t lost a decision since July 26. That certainly softens the blow of missing Adam Wainwright all season.  Will Wacha stay hot, or will Scherzer turn it around when the two meet in St. Louis this Wednesday?

MLB: Kershaw – Dodgers Host Zimmermann – Nationals

MLB: Kershaw Aims To Continue Washington Dominance

Two National League powerhouses wrap up a three-game set on Wednesday in Los Angeles as the Dodgers host the Washington Nationals. On their best days, either of these starting pitchers can make any lineup in the majors look foolish.Washington hasn’t had much luck against Clayton Kershaw. They’ll get another shot at the three-time Cy Young winner on Wednesday as the Nationals wrap up a three-game set in Los Angeles with the Dodgers. Jordan Zimmermann gets the call for the Nationals, who struck out 14 times against Kershaw last month.

Clayton Kershaw saw his scoreless-innings streak snapped at 37 innings in his last outing. However, he returns home where he’ 6-2 in 10 starts this season with an ERA of 1.66. Batters are hitting just .188 off him in those outings. The Nationals pitcher Jordan Zimmermann, who is 0-2 in his last five starts has been erratic on the road this season, going 4-4 in 10 starts with an ERA of 4.95, which is more than two runs higher than his ERA at home.

What’s more is that Kershaw has had his way with the Nationals throughout his career, going 8-2 in 12 games (11 starts) with an ERA of 2.31. That includes the July 18 outing where Kershaw tossed eight shutout innings of three-hit ball, striking out a season-high 14 batters in a 4-2 win on the road in Washington.

Clayton Kershaw isn’t chasing history with his scoreless streak anymore, but the three-time Cy Young winner will try to stay hot as he leads the Los Angeles Dodgers at home against the Washington Nationals on Wednesday.

The Nationals will be leaning towards Jordan Zimmermann, but Kershaw is the lead story here as the Dodgers have won four of his last five starts. He has owned the Nationals with an 8-2 record in 12 starts with an ERA of 2.31. He racked up 14 strikeouts against the Nationals in his only meeting with them this season. If he’s pitching like that on Wednesday, Zimmermann will have a tough time keeping up.

MLB Betting: Nats, LA Dodgers Clash in Three-Game Weekend Set

MLB Odds: Nats, LA Dodgers Clash Makes Baseball Fans Forget About All-Star Break

A pair of National League powerhouses will collide in the first series back after the All-Star Game, ushering the second half of the Major League Baseball betting season. With the lion’s share of the year in the rear view mirror, each team’s odds of winning the World Series comes more and more into view.

Both the Washington Nationals and Los Angeles Dodgers are above .500 after the first 80-plus games of the regular season, but they’ll have to continue to show that they’re more than just collections of All-Star talent and celebrity. With 15/2 World Series odds in the futures market, the Nationals are slightly favored over their Dodger opponents (17/2).

Neither the Washington Nationals nor Los Angeles Dodgers are new to the top of the MLB futures list, but both have struggled to capitalize on their lofty expectations. When the second half of the 2015 campaign kicks off this Friday, they’ll each be looking to show that this is the year they manage to go all the way.

So far throughout this 2015 campaign we’ve seen Bryce Harper establish himself as a superstar, but the Washington Nationals has little to show for his ascent so far. Harper’s 26 home runs and 61 RBI heading into the break have the 22-year-old outfielder’s name on the tips of everyone’s tongues, but any late season success will have to come from the team as a whole.

Expect the Dodgers, whose roster boasts All-Star Game starting pitcher Zach Greinke, to come out swinging in the second half of the season. With a 51-39 record straight up, they’ll face a lot of pressure going forward. Betting on Major League Baseball is about to get serious.

The Nationals boast some of MLB’s greatest odds because their roster comes loaded with some of the best talent in the league. If Harper’s 26 home runs and 61 RBIs aren’t enough to impress, then consider staff ace Max Scherzer’s 150 strikeouts and 2.11 ERA through 18 appearances (or, better yet, that 0.78 WHIP).

With no shortage of title-worthy talent, the Nationals will need to show up when it matters most, especially with a Dodgers team hell-bent on beating lofty expectations.

The Los Angeles Dodgers have struggled against the spread this season, but that hasn’t stopped them from emerging as NL West leaders. LA will look to start off the second half of their campaign on the right foot with a big showing on the road against the equally formidable Washington Nationals. The second half of the baseball season is here. Bet on Major League Baseball at its best.
