Seattle Seahawks at Carolina Panthers – NFC Divisional Round

Seahawks Panthers FootballSeattle Seahawks ready to renew rivalry with Carolina Panthers

The Carolina Panthers (15-1) has lost only once since its season ending defeat to the Seattle Seahawks (11-6) last year. The Seattle Seahawks stumbled early and sneaked into the playoffs as the No. 6 seed. Seattle reached the divisional round because of a missed field goal by Minnesota Vikings kicker Blair Walsh in the Wild Card Round. The Panthers have won 11 straight at home and defeated the Seahawks on the road earlier this season. The matchup between the Seattle Seahawks and Carolina Panthers will take place on Sunday, January 17, 2016, at 1:05 p.m. ET at Bank of America Stadium. The game will be televised on FOX.

The Carolina Panthers received the hardest playoff draw possible for a 15-1 team that has home field advantage against  the Seahawks. The two teams met at Seattle’s CenturyLink Field earlier this season, a contest that Carolina won, 27-23. They are 8-0 at home this season with an average margin of victory by a score of 33-17. Quarterback Cam Newton has a passer rating of 104.6 at home compared to 94.5 on the road with five more touchdown passes on his home turf than on the road. Securing home field is why coach Ron Rivera played his starters into the fourth quarter of the regular season finale.

The Seattle Seahawks and Carolina have struck up quite a rivalry in recent years, with the Seahawks knocking the Panthers out of the playoffs last season. This will be the seventh time since 2010 that the Panthers and Seahawks have played, with the Panthers victory in Seattle in October breaking a five-game Seahawks winning streak. During last weeks Wild Card game the Seahawks defense was stifling in Minnesota. They also caught a break when the potential game-winning 27 yard field goal went wide left. Seattle has to make another long trip for this one but come playoff time good teams overcome those minor obstacles. The road teams swept the Wild Card round and Seattle is playing good football, particularly on defense. The Seahawks should be putting pressure on Cam Newton this time around and make it more difficult for him.

Carolina Panthers, Green Bay Packers fight for first place in NFC

The unbeaten Carolina Panthers are proving to be a resilient bunch, where time and time again this season they have overcome mistakes and found ways to win. That was never more evident than Monday night when four players made mistakes only to help the Panthers later in the game beat the Indianapolis Colts 29-26 in overtime to keep their perfect season alive. Green Bay was dealt its first loss of the season and dropped from the NFL’s undefeated ranks when Aaron Rodgers had one of his worst games against Denver last week. The matchup between the Green Bay Packers and Carolina Panthers is scheduled for Sunday, November 8, 2015, at 1:00 p.m. ET at Bank of America Stadium. The game will be televised on FOX.

The Carolina Panthers offense continues to do just enough on each game to get the job done. Cam Newton is the unquestioned star of the Panthers offense, but that doesn’t mean you’ll get 400-yard passing games with barrels of touchdown passes. His reputation for wildly athletic scrambles from the pocket and big, downfield throws after escaping pressure are well-earned and still a serious threat. Containing Newton in the pocket and not allowing him to run wild for big gains on pass plays is an obvious key for n defense, and will be no different for the Packers. The Carolina defense has been very consistent. Panthers cornerback Josh Norman is a difference maker on the outside and their pass rush has been good. They have some very talented linebackers who have incredible name recognition and the back end has been very consistent. Those guys have been playing really well, making plays on the ball, creating turnovers, tackling well so they are all playing really well together.

Last week the Green Bay packers was dealt its first loss of the season. Denver held Rodgers to 77 passing yards and no touchdowns in the 29-10 loss. Facing the league’s best defense, the former MVP came up with the third-worst passing yardage total of his career and failed to throw a touchdown for just the 10 th time in 110 starts. However, Rodgers has traditionally done well against Carolina. In the last three games he’s completed 69 percent of his passes for 861 yards and eight touchdowns to one interception for a 119.8 passer rating and two victories. Last year Rodgers threw three touchdowns in a 38-17 home rout of Carolina. Green Bay’s defense has trouble stopping the run throughout this season, and Carolina could exploit the weakness and keep Rodgers off the field for long stretches. The Packers are tied for No. 25 in the NFL with 124.4 rushing yards allowed per game, and opposing rushers are gaining 4.7 yards per carry.
