MLB – Washington Nationals at New York Mets

The New York Mets will be playing against the Washington Nationals on Friday in a matchup of NL East heavyweights. The Mets will be sending Noah Syndergaard to the mound against the Nationals pitcher Stephen Strasburg for this game. Only the Giants and Cubs have better  records than the Nats in the National League.  The Washington Nationals currently holds a four game lead over the New York Mets for the lead in the division. The matchup between the Washington Nationals and New York Mets will take place on Friday, July 8, 2016 at 7:10 p.m. ET at Citi Field. The ballgame will be broadcast on the MLB Network.

The Washington Nationals righty ace pitcher Stephen Strasburg has been dealing with a back injury that put him on the disabled list. He came back against the Cincinnati Reds and pitched for 6.2 scoreless innings for the win.  The win gives him a perfect 11-0  record.  He is moving ever closer as a potential NL Cy Young contestant. Strasburg is having his best season as a pro. He has allowed just 75 hits in just under 100 innings of work, and opponents are batting .208 against him. He has had good starts in both ballgames against the Mets this season. Strasburg stands at 5-1 against the Mets with a 0.97 WHIP lifetime at Citi Field. Strasburg has given up more than 2 ER in just five starts this season.

The New York Mets pitcher Noah Syndergaard has bone spurs in the back of the pitching elbows. However, these spurs didn’t even bother him last time out against the Cubs as he continued to mow people down. Thor allowed Chicago just seven hits and 1 ER with eight strikeouts and no walks through seven innings. The Mets have a 11-6 record when he has statred. Thor is best at home where he’s 5-1 with a 2.02 ERA. He is also 2-1 with a 2.70 ERA against the Nationals. Syndergaard did not have a good game against the Nats when he last threw at them back on June 27. He gave up 5 ER and seven hits through just three innings. You can expect him to go all out this time around with that game fresh in his mind. Best Sports Site Blog  expects both starting pitchers to be on top of their game in this one. We believe that Thor will be talking it to the next level and give the edge to the Mets.

MLB – Chicago Cubs at New York Mets

Bartolo+Colon+Chicago+Cubs+Series+New+York+MetsChicago Cubs vs. New York Mets in City of Gotham on Saturday

The New York Mets and pitcher Bartolo Colon welcome in the Chicago Cubs and pitcher Jake Arrieta this Saturday night. The matchup between the Chicago Cubs and New York Mets will take place on Saturday, July 2, 2016 at 7:15 p.m. ET at Citi Field. The game will be broadcast on FOX.

The Chicago Cubs have been looking a little out of form lately.  The Cubs are No. 2 in baseball and still one of the best teams with a 50-26 record.  This season the Cubs are 10 games over .500 on the road and are averaging 5.7 runs per game. The Cubs will send Jake Arrieta to the mound for this game. He is known of being capable of winning the big games when it counts. Last time out he won but  was tagged for 5 ER and a home run through five innings against the Reds. He has gone just five innings in each of his past two starts, with his pitch count climbing early as he’s struggled with his control. He has 2-1 record and a 1.82 ERA in his five career starts against the Mets. Chicago is going to be be ready for this one with Arrieta taking control at the mound.

The New York Mets now trail both Miami and the Nationals in the division standings. This puts the Mets a half game out of the Wild Card slot. The Mets pitching staff is comprised with some of the best young arms in the game. Jacob deGrom and Noah Syndergaard are two examples of these young guns. The Mets are sending 43 year old Bartolo Colon to the mound for this game. He has a  6-4 record with a 2.86 ERA. He has dominated as of late, and only allowed two or less earned runs in each of his last seven starts. The Mets are 9-6 in his 15 starts, and he is best at home where his ERA is 2.63. The Mets have a lot of injury of late, and have only averaged 3.4 runs per game during the last week. Best Sports Site Blog is looking for Colon to break down and run out of gas in this game. Look for Cubs infielders Anthony Rizzo and Kris Bryant to be too much for him to keep in check, and for the Cubs to be the victor in this one.

Mets at Kansas City Royals-World Series Game 2

MLB: Mets – DeGrom vs Royals – Cueto in World Series Game 2

There’s so much pitching talent on the New York Mets and the Kansas City Royals. It’s hard to tell who the aces are sometimes. But for all intents and purposes, both teams will be at the top of their rotations when they meet  Wednesday night in Game 2 of the 2015 World Series. National League Cy Young outsider Jacob deGrom (2.70 FIP) will start for the New York Mets when they visit Johnny Cueto (3.53 FIP) and the Kansas City Royals. First pitch from Kauffman Stadium is scheduled at 8:07 PM ET and will be broadcasted on FOX.

The New York Mets (90-72) have the pitching advantage on Wednesday when they start  with Jacob deGrom, a possible Cy Young candidate in the National League. Jacob deGrom, the 27-year-old rookie, has been great for the New York Mets, and not only in the regular season, but in the playoffs as well.  The right hander has won all three of his starts, allowing four earned runs in 20.0 innings of work. All three of those starts have happened on the road, but this will be the first time that deGrom has faced Kansas City. However, deGrom has been spectacular all season and doesn’t seem fazed by the spotlight.

The Kansas City Royals (95-67) have home field advantage after winning more games during the regular season. Kansas City will be represented by pitcher Johnny Cueto (3.53 FIP), who hasn’t quite lived up to the hype since coming over from the Cincinnati Reds at the trade deadline. Cueto is 1-1 in three postseason starts with an ERA of 7.88. He didn’t get out of the third inning in his last outing in Toronto as Cueto was hit hard for eight earned runs on six hits. Cueto has been slightly better at home, giving up six earned runs in two starts against Houston. Cueto has seen the Mets 11 times in the past from his time in Cincinnati. However, his numbers are 3-4 in 11 starts with an ERA of 4.03.

Mets vs Cubs on Wednesday at Wrigley Field

MLB: Cubs Scrambling to Even NLCS with Mets

Pitchers Matz and Hammel Meet In The Windy City

The New York Mets haven’t played in the World Series this millennium, but they’re two wins away after taking the first two games of the NLCS from the Chicago Cubs. At this point, it looks like the Mets will be playing in the World Series for the first time since 2000. The New York Mets’ pitching staff is young and dangerous. One of the most underrated hurlers of the bunch gets a chance to earn his first playoff win on Wednesday in Chicago against the Cubs. The Chicago Cubs and New York Mets will square off in Game 4 of the NLCS on Wednesday night at Wrigley Field. The pitching matchup will pit youth against experience.  Game 4 on Wednesday is scheduled to start at 8:07 PM ET on TBS.

The Mets will send out 24-year-old Steven Matz, who has had quite a debut season. He not only got the win in his first start back in June, but he went 3-for-3 at the plate and collected four RBIs as well.  He suffered a torn lat muscle during mid-season and ended up making just six starts. He finished the regular season at 4-0 with an ERA of 2.27. He started in the NLDS and took a loss against the Los Angeles Dodgers, but it was a decent postseason debut. Matz gave up only three runs in five innings.

The Cubs will counter with 33-year-old Jason Hammel, who allowed two runs in three relief innings in the Cubs’ 6-4 series-clinching win over St. Louis in the NLDS.  Hammel has regained some of his form since returning to Chicago during the offseason.  Hammel was 10-7 in 31 regular season starts with an ERA of 3.74. He made one start against the Mets this season, tossing eight strong innings, allowing one run on five hits. Chicago did win Hammel’s one playoff start, beating the St. Louis Cardinals 6-4 to take down their NLDS. Hammel pitched just three-plus innings before getting pulled from that game.
