The Detroit Tigers and the Boston Red Sox are both in second place in their respective divisions. Each team is trying to make the postseason as they close out a three game series Wednesday afternoon.  The matchup  between the Detroit Tigers and Boston Red Sox is scheduled to start on Wednesday, July 27, 2016, at 7:10 p.m. ET at Fenway Park. The ballgame will be broadcast on FOX Sports Detroit and NESN.

The Detroit Tigers not as good on the road and are a couple games under .500 right now. The Tigers will be sending rookie right-hander Michael Fulmer to the mound for this ballgame. Fulmer has been the best starting pitcher and is a big reason Detroit remains competitive. He has 15 starts this year with a 9-2 record and a 2.41 ERA. The opposing teams are just getting 6.9 hits and .7 home runs per nine innings of pitching.  Fulmer has shown that he can get the big strikeout when needed and is striking out 8.1 per nine innings. He is also walking three per nine innings. The Tigers offense ranks in the middle of the pack in the AL with 454 runs scored. After the break, Detroit outfielder Justin Upton hit a pair of homers in seven games and has a .348 on base percentage over the last week. The Detroit catcher position is still an issue with James McCann posting a .548 OPS and Jarrod Saltalamacchia hitting just .188. Shortstop Jose Iglesias is also doing below average with a .255 batting average. The rest of the Tigers are doing rather great.

The Boston Red Sox is a much better home team than road team. They have a 32-22 record at home. The BoSox will send its young southpaw Eduardo Rodriguez to the mound for this game. Rodriguez returned to the majors on July 26 and only allowed one run over seven innings against the Yankees. The next game against the Twins, he gave up two runs and struck out eight in five and a third innings. Rodriguez has had a tough season with a 2-4 record and and 6.70 ERA. These numbers is what led to his demotion to the minors earlier this year. The Boston offense have outscored all other baseball offenses by  40 runs this year. Best Sports Site Blog will give the edge to the Red Sox who are the top team   in runs scored, are at home, and have the better offense.

MLB: Cubs Welcome Tigers to Wrigley

MLB: Youth vs. Experience in Tigers-Cubs Matchup, Lester Looks for Support Versus Tigers

It’s a battle of two southpaws; Jon Lester pitches for Chicago, while Daniel Norris responds for Detroit. The Chicago Cubs 67-49, will try to tighten their grip on an NL Wild Card berth when they host the Detroit Tigers 56-61, this Wednesday night. The Detroit Tigers  have essentially given up on the 2015 season, but they’ll get a glimpse of the future Wednesday night when Daniel Norris takes the mound against veteran lefty Jon Lester and the Chicago Cubs. First pitch is at 8:05 PM ET on ESPN.

Norris was the centerpiece of the deal that sent David Price to the Toronto Blue Jays at the non-waiver trade deadline. The rookie southpaw has had more success with the Tigers, leading them to a 2-1 record in his three starts since the trade. Norris (4.67 FIP) has had his ups and downs as a rookie. With Toronto, Norris was in the hole on a team record of 2-3 before getting sent to AAA-Buffalo.

The Cubs are very much alive in the National League playoff race, holding down the second Wild Card spot, and Lester (2.86 FIP) has pitched like an ace in his first year on the senior circuit. Lester has pitched very well since signing with Chicago in the off-season, however Chicago is just 13-10 in Lester’s 23 starts. When Lester takes the mound,  his teammates are just providing 3.17 runs of support per game instead of their usual 3.99 runs. Jon Lester could use some run support when his Chicago Cubs host Daniel Norris and the Detroit Tigers this Wednesday night.

Jon Lester got absolutely pounded by Tigers hitters June 9 in Detroit,  but that might be more a function of a poor lifetime mark in Comerica Park (6.35 career ERA there in five starts) than pitching against the Tigers. Besides, Lester’s been very good since then. Daniel Norris was acquired by Detroit from the Blue Jays and though he hasn’t done well in the big leagues this year, he is just 22 and considered a Top 20 prospect by Baseball America.

MLB Odds: Need To Know Before Tigers Host Jays This Weekend

MLB Odds: Detroit vs. Toronto in Battle of Good Teams That Aim To Be Great

A pair of under performing but formidable opponents will collide in Michigan this weekend as the Detroit Tigers host the Toronto Blue Jays. More than just a battle of wills, the series is relevant to those anxious to capitalize on a trend that’s emerged in the Tigers’ recent track record.

In each of their past 10 games, the Tigers and their opponents have combined to plate more runs than the over/under suggests. That’s what happens when the pitching staff of one of the most prolific hitting teams in the league starts to struggle. In addition to Detroit’s 5.6 runs per game over the span, they’ve allowed an average of 6.5.

This weekend the Tigers will look to gain ground in the AL Central as the Blue Jays look to claw their way up the AL East. Both squads are capable of conference dominance, and both have the talent required for a successful season, yet both teams have coasted safely in the middle of the pack so far.

According to odds-makers, both teams are decent long-term MLB betting options. The Tigers are 16/1 to win the World Series compared to Toronto’s 20/1.

Neither the Detroit Tigers or Toronto Blue Jays are out in front of their American League divisions, but both have the skill to get there by the end of the season. Considering that both are decent MLB futures options, the sports betting community may want to tune into their upcoming three-game series.

The Tigers have looked fantastic offensively of late, but will need to reign in their pitching staff. With supreme power now extending beyond Miguel Cabrera and Victor Martinez, it’s about time they do.

The Jays, locked in the middle of a tight Al East, will hope to add their own mid-season tweaks in order to improve their 20/1 World Series odds in the futures market.

Why Detroit’s World-Class Offense Isn’t Enough To Make Them MLB Betting Favorites

The Detroit Tigers and their opponents have topped the over/under in each of their past 10 performances. They’ll look to take that offense (5.6 runs per game during the span) and tighten up their pitching (6.5 allowed) heading forward. With 16/1 World Series odds in the futures market, they’re a legitimate title threat.

With much work to be done in their race for AL East, the Toronto Blue Jays will hit the road against a formidable, but equally stunted opponent. Long considered contenders out of the American League, the Jays and Tigers are 20/1 and 16/1 respectively to win the World Series. If either team is to live up to the hype, they’ll have to start soon.

The Detroit Tigers’ offense is difficult to contain (thanks JD Martinez), but if the franchise plans to improve their 16/1 World Series odds, they’ll need to get more production out of their pitching staff. Detroit has allowed 6.5 runs per game over the course of their last 10.

There will be no shortage of power on display when the Toronto Blue Jays visit the Detroit Tigers this weekend, but only one can come away with the series victory.
