The Washington Nationals will attempt to settle the score with the Chicago Cubs who swept them right out of Wrigley Field in early May. In recent rivalry, the Cubs have won eight of the last 10 games with the Nats. The matchup between the Chicago Cubs and Washington Nationals will take place on Wednesday, June 15, 2016, at 4:05 p.m. ET at Nationals Park. The baseball contest will be broadcast on WGN.
The Chicago Cubs will be sending veteran pitcher Jason Hammel to the mound. Hammel is 7-2 for the season with a 2.36 ERA and 7.9 K/9 average. He has 12 starts this season and lost the last game to Atlanta in which he gave up eight hits and 3 ER over 5.2 innings of work. Hammel does better at home and is only 4-3 when he’s on the road where his ERA is up slightly at 2.57. Hammel does well against the Nats, but gave up three ER and walked four through just five innings back on May 7.
The Washington Nationals will be sending 10 game winner Stephen Strasburg to the mound for this game. Despite leaving his previous start with a calf strain, he went out and owned the Philadelphia Phillies after getting roughed up early. After giving up four earned, he went on to strikeout 10 and retired the final 14 batters he faced to log his tenth win of the season. He’s undefeated on the year and has given up just 69 hits and struck out 110 over his 86 total innings of work. He didn’t get a chance to play against the Cubs earlier this season, and will be looking to earn his first win against them in his fourth career try. Best Sports Site Blog is going to have to go with Strasburg and the Nats on this one. Strasburg has been on a tear and has gone six plus innings in 12 of his 13 overall starts. He also has the better of the two bullpens backing him up.
